Idaho Surprise Proposal at Pend Oreille River

Capturing the romance and beauty of this Idaho Surprise Proposal at Pend Oreille River

I first met Paige during a wedding vendor networking event and we hit it right off. I have had Paige and her now fiancé, Tyler model for another styled shoot I put together. So when I posted about a concept I had of a couple swimming around in water, Paige reached right out to book the session.

It wasn’t until a day or so later that Tyler messaged me on Instagram asking if this would be a perfect time to surprise Paige with an engagement ring. I didn’t hesitate one bit and said, “OMG!!! YES! let’s do it!” He asked me when the right time during the session would be to pop the question and I came up with the perfect plan. I told him I will have Paige looking out at the water as if your will be running up behind her, grab her around the waist and kiss her while rocking back and forth. So that is exactly what we did and as I decided to change the prompt, Paige turned around to find Tyler down on one knee with a stunning ring in her grandmother vintage ring box.

The first half of the session we stayed on dry land and captured some romantic moments between Paige and Tyler, just soaking up this amazing new beginning for them. The second half of the session we played around in the water. Summer in Idaho is the perfect time to spend near and in the water so if your planning a unique and epic Idaho engagement and want to explore the rivers and lake, summer is your best bet!

How to plan for an Idaho water engagement session

Planning a Idaho water engagement session will create a stunning and unique experience. Here are few tips on how to help you plan:

Choose the right location

When it comes to finding the best location for a water engagement session in Idaho consider what type of water source you want. This could be one of the numerous lakes or rivers. I have some great recourses for finding the right spot for you.

Also consider the accessibility of the water or location. There are some beautiful Alpine Lakes sitting higher up on a mountain, but to get there means hours of hiking. So if you aren’t wanting to hike in to a location then choose a location that is a bit easier to get to.

Lastly, permits are most common for parks. I can help with finding the permits we need to visit the park. This will require extra fees.

Timing and Lighting

As your Idaho Engagement photographer it is part of my profession to know when the best time is for your session. I am very familiar with all types of lighting conditions but I absolutely love golden hour and often will shoot in this lighting. Golden hour changes throughout the session so choosing the right time will be something we will discuss during booking.

Weather is something else to consider for session. The Pacific Northwest is notorious for extreme weather changes so be prepared is recommended. Also if you are wanting to take a dip in the water, please make sure to bring an extra pair of comfy dry clothes to change into.

Outfits

When planning outfits for your Idaho water engagement session it’s best to have both comfortable and durable clothing options. Make sure they are lightweight but stylish. As your Idaho Engagement Photographer, I’m here to assist you in making sure you both are prepared for this type of session. The most important thing I don’t want you to forget is bringing a backup pair of clothing. These are items that you’ll change into after playing around in the water so they don’t have to be fancy. We will be taking dry land photos first, so you are more than welcome to bring two outfit choices to your session.

Safety First

Last but importantly not least is knowing your limits. Be mindful of depth, currents or slippery rocks. Staying in areas you feel most comfortable will keep us all safe during the session.

I sure hope you enjoyed the photos from this romantic Idaho Sunset Proposal. And I hope that if your planning on including water into your Idaho engagement session, you feel a little more prepared with the information I shared. The most important part of this journey with me as your Idaho Engagement Photographer is that we chat over zoom to discuss details and get to know one another better.
