Ethan & Katie’s summer documentary-style wedding at Kaniksu Pine Farms in North Idaho is centered around real moments, natural connection, and the kind of in-between interactions that often go unnoticed.
Ethan and Katie’s wedding at Kaniksu Pines Farm was a perfect example of how unscripted connection and intention can be the forefront of a wedding day. They got married at Kaniksu Pines Farm, which is tucked in the small mountain town of Athol, Idaho. It is among one of my favorite venues in the area to work at because it offers a beautiful combination of rustic elegance. Nestled among 24 private acres, of grassy fields and pine trees, it offers a intimate feel.
Katie got ready in the bridal cabin with her mom and bridesmaids. It’s an elegant white wall space with elevated rustic details and queen bed for overnight stay. Ethan got ready at the canvas tent “guys” hangout with his groomsmen.

There was an emotional first look moment with Katie’s brother. He has Autism so we weren’t quite sure how this would play out, but all went well.

Documentary-style wedding details
As a documentary style wedding Photographer, my main focus is on capturing the in-between moments of a wedding day. This does however include details that help bring your day to life.

Summer Ceremony at Kaniksu Pines Farm
Their Kaniksu Pines Farm wedding ceremony was both intimate and unforgettable. With guests facing a hand built alter and endless pine trees, it offered a beautiful view for everyone. From heartfelt moments to a couple surprises, this ceremony truly was a moment to remember.

Katie and Ethan chose to have an “aisle look” and see each other for the first time at the ceremony instead of a traditional first look. What I did offer them pre-wedding day was a chance to spend a few moments together before the ceremony for a first touch. This is something unique and different more couples are leaning towards. It allows you and your partner to take a deep breath and feel before the day officially commences.

Wedding Portraits with a Horse
Kaniksu Pines Farm offers their horses for photos and that is something Katie and Ethan wanted to incorporate into their day. We headed out a bit past the ceremony space and took some, what I think are epic wedding portraits.

The Reception Party
The rest of the evening was party time. Candid moments in abundance. This is truly my favorite part of a wedding. It’s the time of the day where everyone just has fun and shows off.

If you’re planning a wedding at Kaniksu Pine Farms or anywhere in North Idaho or Spokane and are drawn to a more documentary approach to photography, I’d love to connect. My work focuses on preserving real moments, natural interactions, and the story of your day as it unfolds.
